Paul Adkins, APRN-CNP is a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner with 23 years of hospital-based inpatient healthcare experience and over 12 years of office-based outpatient experience. P. J. completed his Family Nurse Practitioner training and graduated from Ohio University in 2010. P. J. began his medical career at SOMC and spent two of his twelve years there working and training under the tutelage of pulmonologist Dr. Elie Saab in pulmonary critical care medicine. He also spent one year working in the Urgent Care setting with EPMG at the Portsmouth and Wheelersburg locations. An interest in cardiology led him to the Richard M. Ross Heart Hospital at Ohio State University’s Wexner Medical Center where he has worked nearly 18 years. For over a decade, P. J. has worked as an advanced practice provider on the cardiology consult service at OSU and continues to do so. P. J. was the first advanced practice provider hired by Compass Community Health where he has spent the past ten years serving patients in southern Ohio. He played a prominent role in the creation and growth of Compass while cultivating a reputation of excellence and trust among his patients. P. J. has also served as Clinical Faculty Supervisor for Ohio University for the past ten years educating and mentoring other advanced practice providers. P. J. is excited to provide a “patient-first” experience and “first-class” care to his patient’s at Collier Medical.
P.J. will offer traditional family practice and primary care medical services at Collier, but will also offer a comprehensive individualized approach to every patient he cares for. He is known to be an effective communicator, active listener, and quickly builds rapport with all his patients. P. J. understands patient respect, trust, open communication, and provider availability is quintessential to a patient’s success in the journey to optimize their health. His clinical interests include chronic disease management, treatment and prevention of cardio-metabolic disease, obesity management with safe FDA approved medication options involving medically supervised weight loss, complex diabetes management, chronic and acute migraine management, mental health and psychiatric care, pulmonology, cardiology, and care coordination. He is experienced in joint injections, trigger point injections, shave biopsy, and lesion removal/destruction. Telehealth visit and virtual visit options are available along with quick care visits.
P. J. is a southern Ohio native and was born in Portsmouth, Ohio. He resides in Lucasville with his wife Cory and daughter Ryleigh. He is an active member of Waverly Baptist Temple and enjoys teaching Sunday School and playing acoustic guitar during the church services. His extracurricular activities include playing bluegrass gospel guitar, landscaping, going to Disney and largemouth bass fishing in Florida.
